2016年5月2日,韓春雨作為通訊作者在國際頂級期刊《自然·生物技術》(Nature Biotechnology)雜志上發表了一篇研究成果,即發明了一種新的基因編輯技術——NgAgo-gDNA,向已有的最時興技術CRISPR-Cas9發起了挑戰。
論文發表後,在國內外引發強烈關注,甚至被部分媒體譽為「諾獎級」實驗成果。但此後不久,該論文內容就陷入爭論:有人提出韓春雨的試驗無法重復,有人說可以重復,彼此爭論不休、難有定論。
2017年1月19日,《自然-生物技術》發布最新聲明指出,該期刊已獲得有關韓春雨實驗可重復性的新數據,需要調查研究這些數據。
