當時我寫了一篇短文，希望中國學者及學術機構能夠走出像SSCI（Social Science Citation Index，社會科學引文索引）和AHCI（Arts & Humanities Citation Index，藝術與人文引文索引）這樣的引文迷思，即不要把在收入此類索引的雜志上發表的文章之多少看做是一個人或一個大學學術水平高低的標准。但我是主張中國學術應該走向世界的，而且我也認為走向世界的一種方式是在國外的學術刊物上發表文章，而國外特別是英文的學術雜志又大多收於上述這樣的索引。 我本人主編的比較哲學雜志Dao: A Journal of Comparative Philosophy經常收到國內學者的來稿。但至少部分地是由於國內和英語世界的學術規范不盡相同，這些來稿的錄用率很低。這里我無意評論這兩種規范的優劣高下，而只想說明，中國學者如果要想在西方學術界發表自己的著作，就不能不了解西方的學術規范。限於自己的專業、語言和經驗，我主要是想對國內哲學界想在英文哲學刊物上發表文章的同行，提一些非常一般的建議，雖然這些建議對人文學界有類似願望的其他學者或許也有一定的參考價值。 我想先談幾個枝節的問題。一是大家知道，國外的學術期刊基本上都實行雙向匿名評審制。因此國內學者在准備自己的論文時，不應在論文中有任何錶明自己身份的說法。在援引自己別的著作時，也可以用援引他人著作一樣的方式。二是盡量使用性別中性的語言。如表示一般的人，不要使用男性的代詞「他」之類。三是雖然大多數學術期刊在一開始並不嚴格要求，但如果文章一旦被接受，都要求作者使用該期刊所使用的寫作和編輯體例。
